Holiday destination

The Harz is characterized by many different attractions. You can explore imposing landscapes and wildlife by foot, for example using the 'Harzer Hexen-Stieg' which was crowned to Germanys top trails in 2008. If you are lucky you´ll be able to espy a lynx, who has settled again in the local woods over the last few years. Moreover, there are mystic valleys and steep rocks, to explore by bike as well. The biggest and most popular challenge is the 'Brocken' with its height of 1.142 m. The ascent can also be accomplished by the 'Harzer Schmalspurbahnen'. Here you can take a close look at the highest mountain in the Harz.

Visitors can enjoy lots of additional events, too. Every year - in the night of April 30th to May 1rst - a meeting of witches at the 'Hexentanzplatz' in Thale takes place. They are having a glittery party together with numerous guests. The annually 'Schlossfestspiele' and the international 'Johannes Brahms chorfestival' in Wernigerode are promising highlights, too. Ancient cultural sights like the castles in Blankenburg, Ballenstedt and Wernigerode, the Domschatz in Halberstadt and Quedlinburg or the flowstone cave in Rübeland give reason for a visit as well. Also, one can choose between several wellness offerings, represented by many registered health resorts, thermaes and saunas.
